    Updated: 2012-07-31 12:00:39
Contrary to some recent criticisms, we don’t believe the Diabetes Online Community (DOC) is a closed club. Actually, it’s a very open and welcoming place where anyone struggling with diabetes can find support and information.  We each might be looking…

  • Cup 'O Worry

    Updated: 2012-07-30 18:09:04
I sometimes forget that I have two other kids to worry about. If my worries were kept in a cup, diabetes would fill it to the top until it spilled over the sides.   I often feel as if my worries have reached its capacity. That I can't take on any more. Due to the mentally exhausting nature of managing my son's diabetes and watching as it inflicts damage upon him, I am unfortunately no longer accepting new worries at this time. Please resubmit your worries in the Spring. Thank You.   read more

    Updated: 2012-07-29 17:01:36
I'm not sure where this month went. Can it really be just a few days away from August 1st? I feel like the second half of July snuck by while I was sleeping, but surely it didn't because I'm incredibly behind on sleep and rest. Work has been hectic, good but busy. Vacation took a lot of time. And life is just flying by me.   My blood sugars are also flying by me. Last week was a disaster and ever since returning from vacation, I haven't been able to find a stable level. I took some time off from working out, which really didn't help me. And last week, I'm not sure what happened except the diabetes gods decided to punish me.   read more

  • (Lack of) Money Changes Everything

    Updated: 2012-07-25 15:47:29
One of the themes I harp on with respect to type 2 diabetes is that it disproportionately strikes people in lower income brackets, and that people whose racial and ethnic profiles put them at higher risk for type 2 tend to be in those lower income brackets. It's a double-whammy that affects access to diabetes-friendly foods, medication, and even basic medical care.   read more

The only logic behind this is that that is ample time to start to hear about any serious issues . It is not foolproof but seems to make sense to . me I continue to be amazed by the issues related to medicines that keep coming . up The latest controversy is about Actos . Some serious side effects have been . identified Check out

Ok... So for my New England friends, are all these pressure changes setting your body all crazy?    I'm finding that I'm pretty tired these days, even with plenty of sleep.   I'm thinking that it's the strange weather.  Days at 90 degrees and lots of humidity, then thunder and lightning.  This morning, bright sun framed by drizzly rain.  Really chilly days here and there.  All mix together and the changing air pressure, I think, has my body at its wits end.     read more

    Updated: 2012-07-20 16:02:19
I feel very fortunate to have been born and diagnosed in this generation of diabetes technology.   It's hard to fathom that less than less than 100 years ago, there was no treatment for diabetes outside of starvation diets that seem to me more torture than anything else.  When I was first diagnosed, home blood glucose testing wasn't the norm.  For the first two years of my d-life, we tested urine and made guesses about bloodsugar levels.     read more
