If there’s one thing that readers of this column know it’s that everything matters; shirts, ties, jackets, trousers, braces, buttons – the lot. As soon as you prioritise something, you realise how important something else is. However, there are two items in the gentleman’s wardrobe that are said to require significant thought, consideration and investment, [...]

  • Small Menswear Brands with Online Stores

    Updated: 2012-04-21 01:29:15
There is a lot of mentioning of ‘micro brands’ recently (and not far off from here: If You Can Buy It at an Airport It Ceases to Be Exclusive, Micro Labels and Brand Longevity), which provoked me to compile a list for my shopping reference. So one of the criteria was that they must sell [...]

  • Don’t Neglect Morning Suit Trousers

    Updated: 2012-04-16 09:13:57
The morning suit, though a type of formal dress used on special occasions today, is very much an ensemble of the past. In its fullest splendour, when a gleaming top hat is the crowning accessory, it is a silhouette of the late-Victorian era, a visual symbol of the 19th century. The emblematic nature of its [...]

  • Sartorial Love/Hate: White Loafers

    Updated: 2012-04-13 22:02:56
“What, like Don Johnson?” they asked barely concealing their mirth, as I indicated my intention of pursuing a pair of white loafers for the summer. “No” I responded, wearily “not like Don Johnson.” White loafers are an unusual sartorial prospect. Whenever I have mentioned them, people repeat the word ‘white’ in an emphatically inquisitive manner, [...]

  • It's him Guvnor! I'd recognise that suit any where!

    Updated: 2012-04-09 00:00:00
' One Man Two Guvnors  is a super show and the costumes are just wow!An adaptation of 'A Servant and Two Masters' by Goldoni it is set in the 1960's and perfect for a modern, ritish audience. I failed to go and see it while James Corden was in the role of Francis Henshall but the other week I treated myself to a little after work outing with a girlfriend. I'm inclined to believe that Owain Arthur does an even better job in the lead role.

  • Skin and Ink

    Updated: 2012-04-05 00:00:00
I have been a fan of tattoos since my late teens, and whilst I have never taken the plunge - never say never - I have lived my tattoo fantasies vicariously through my best friend who has been having his skin painted since Lal Hardy was the tattoo parlour of choice, upon Muswell Hill. Not that I have ever been the shy and retiring type, but I do enjoy wearing my heart on my sleeve (ahem) and bespoke tailoring has given me that opportunity, in much the same way I should imagine that designing your [...]

    Updated: 2012-04-04 00:00:00
Whilst we all love to be different from one another, one thing remains the same, we all want a ell fitting suit. Unfortunately there are other factors at play and we loose sight of our riginal oal. How many times have you been swayed by a price tag, or a name, but been bitterly disappointed at some aspect of the garment you've just taken home? 'Sure, it's a lovely cloth, but the jacket is a little tight'.........'It'll do, as long as I don't button it up.' Or, 'Ooh it's Arma [...]
