It turned out to be exactly the same thing as reported above . There were 7 of us that witnessed it . My husband and I had seen the same thing 2 nights previously . This was no flare , or airplane . It was flying in a controlled way and turned with deliberation . Looking south , just above the horizon , there was a light moving at super high speed on north . I mean it was moving fast . The light was orange and seemed to stay at the same height . Do you know what this is I have fished at night for many years , and never have I seen anything like this . I am very curious as to what it may be . It cannot be a meteorite as it did not fall down , but raced across the horizon , staying at the same height . Could it be something to do with gas The colour was bright orange . It was a clear mild night , in fact it was the mildest New Year’s night I can remember . There were fireworks going off from the direction of Carlisle . I had , had two relatively large and strong glasses of whisky , but nothing exceptional and I certainly was not drunk . I looked up to the sky and seen an orange light . Evenings It could be lanterns from the Chinese New Year . Or something else . We have seen this twice in Roodepoort Johannesburg . Strangely enough , travelling from the North to West and disappearing . And two days later , tonight 04 January 2013, about 10 min ago , coming from that exact direction in which it disappeared , moving about 1000 feet , very quickly towards the Fourways area .
