  • Sartorial Love/Hate: The Plain Silk Satin Tie

    Updated: 2011-08-18 15:15:55
I used to be very fond of silk satin ties. I remember purchasing a navy slub silk in a sale at Debenhams when I was 16, gravely disappointed that the ‘shiny’ silks had sold out. After my friends had abandoned me to what was essentially an enemy activity (clothes shopping) I rifled through the huge [...]

  • Hitchcock Films

    Updated: 2011-08-18 00:00:00
The more Hitchcock films I watch, the more I see a theme running through all of them. Aside from the genius film making, it is the great sartorial style that I have come to really notice and appreciate. The lead actors, the supporting actresses and even the supporting cast are all impeccably turned out. Maybe it is a sign of the times. The Forties through to the Sixties were a time where a man would be underdressed in anything less than a suit . It may be that they all benefited [...]

Credit: TheSartorialist Contrast is one of the most effective weapons in a man’s wardrobe arsenal, and I don’t just mean the contrast of colour or texture either. • Double breasted gangster look...

    Updated: 2011-08-10 00:00:00
Although never meant to be a fashion statement, just a method of hiding their guns in public, the 1930s gangsters did start a fashion craze. Though not until a good 30 to 40 years had passed and the movies and television started to popularise the wild days of the American prohibition and the men on both sides of the law then, Elliott Ness and Al Calpone to name but two. Even then it was a mystery why the double breasted suit - because in actuality the gangsters usually wore single breasted [...]<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/ASuitThatFits/~4/-xhXwCIOUi0" height="1" width="1"/

  • What is a well fitted suit?

    Updated: 2011-08-08 00:00:00
When I first started A Suit That Fits with Warren, I was absolutely obsessed with the fit of peoples' suits. I would stand behind people on escalators looking. If the length of their trousers was too short, I would internally judge them. As I knew what the correct length should be; they should fall in a straight line, cover the leather of the shoe, and hit the heel. Perfect.
