  • Looking for New Solutions

    Updated: 2012-08-31 01:16:43
Life has been stressful lately. In good and bad ways. Over the past several months, I've taken on a new addition to my job that I absolutely love but that is also absolutely draining at times. Actually, draining is not the right word- that's negative. And this position is wonderful.   It's just that work is different. There's more responsibility, more to do. There's less free time, down time, and everything in between. My days are spent in meetings with volunteer committee members, website creators, and educational and medical specialists. Most days, 8 hours is not enough to do everything that I need to do.   read more

  • A Call to Action

    Updated: 2012-08-26 22:46:57
It always amazes me how many cases we see at work with diabetic kids. I know the percentages are increasing so it makes sense that we would see a decent number of diabetics on CPS cases. But every time I hear about it, my ears perk up and my heart aches for them.   The kids that we work with every day are facing severe traumas. They come from families racked with drug use, criminal history, and painful abuse. Some cases are more extreme than others, but all of them are working through trauma. On top of the abuse or neglect they've endured, they've been removed from their homes.   read more

    Updated: 2012-08-23 17:14:14
I need not remind anyone that living with diabetes is a question of constantly asking, "What if?" What if I run high, or low, when I'm out? What if I forget my diabetes medication? What if I run out of emergency food and there's no store around, or I don't have enough money on me? What if my last vial of insulin goes bad? What if I forget my usual meter at home, work, or somewhere else?   To see us through the "What if"s, we devise The Back-Up Plan.   read more
